Prayagraj: A fire broke out at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on Saturday, which engulfed many tents in the area. While there have been no reports of any loss of life in the incidents, eyewitnesses claimed that several blankets and quilts worth lakhs of rupees have been destroyed.
Notably, crores of devotees reached Prayagraj to take a holy dip at the Sangam. Due to massive crowds gathering due to the weekend, the authorities have already declared areas near Sangam as no vehicle zones. Vehicles coming from outside have been stopped at all the borders of Prayagraj.
Fire is completely under control: Police
Sharing details of the incident, DIG Maha Kumbh Vaibhav Krishna said that the fire had been completely put under control. “Some old tents vacated by Kalpvasis in Sector 19 have caught fire. No one has been killed or injured,” he added.
Notably, this was the fourth incident of fire in Maha Kumbh since it began on January 13. The first fire incident Maha Kumbh was seen on January 19 when many tents were burnt in Sector 19. After this, another fire broke out in Sector 22 on January 30 in which more than a dozen tents were burnt. On February 7, a fire broke out in Sector 18.
Saints gradually returning from Maha Kumbh
In fact, most of the saints have returned from Maha Kumbh after the completion of Kalpvas. After their departure, the tents where they were living were lying vacant. However, due to devotees continuing to reach in large numbers, the administration is still fully alert. Many fire engines have been deployed to control incidents like fire.
