New Delhi: A fire broke out in a ‘kalpvasi’ tent in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh on Sunday due to a gas cylinder leak, news agency PTI reported. Firefighters swiftly responded and managed to douse the blaze within 10 minutes. No casualties were reported.
According to Chief Fire Officer (Kumbh) Pramod Sharma, the fire erupted in a tent set up by Om Prakash Pandey Seva Sansthan, belonging to Rajendra Jaiswal, a resident of Karma, Prayagraj. Upon receiving the alert, three fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Though the fire was contained quickly, the tent was completely gutted.
Multiple fire incidents at Maha Kumbh
This is the latest in a series of fire incidents at the Maha Kumbh.
- February 7: A major fire broke out in the ISKCON camp in Sector 18, engulfing a dozen nearby camps. While no injuries were reported, around 20 tents were destroyed.
- January 19: A massive blaze erupted in Sector 19 due to a cylinder explosion, leaving over a dozen camps gutted.
- January 25: Two cars caught fire in Sector 2 due to a short circuit, which then spread to an adjacent vehicle. No casualties were reported.

The ongoing Maha Kumbh at Triveni Sangam continues to draw crores of devotees from around the world, making it one of the largest religious gatherings globally. So far, approximately 41 crore devotees have taken a holy dip at Maha Kumbh 2025.
