New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Tuesday (January 28) informed a city court that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against journalist Rana Ayyub for allegedly posting derogatory posts on social media against Hindu deities and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
Chief judicial magistrate Himanshu Raman Singh disposed of the plea filed by complainant and advocate Amita Sachdeva after saying that the police filed a compliance report over the court’s direction on January 25 to register an FIR.

The court had on January 25 directed the Delhi Police to register an FIR against Ayyub and investigate the matter properly. The court had listed the matter for today for compliance report.
FIR against Ayyub was registered in south Delhi’s cyber police station
The FIR dated January 27, which was registered in south Delhi’s cyber police station, was registered under sections 153 A (punishment for promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.), 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 505 (statements conducing public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The FIR, regarding the additional information in the case, has said, “Rana Ayyub, a verified Twitter user and public figure who has consistently used her platform to insult revered Hindu deities, malign the fabric of Indian unity and promote hostility toward India and its citizens including Indian army” and that the “deliberate and provocative posts” were not only offensive but a “blatant abuse” of her influence to “incite the Hindu community”, news agency PTI reported.
What did the complainant allege?
Complainant Sachdeva alleged that Ayyub has consistently used her social media platform to insult revered Hindu Deities, malign the fabric of Indian unity, and promote hostility toward India and its citizens including Indian Army and that her deliberate and provocative posts are not only offensive and without justification but are a blatant abuse of her influence to incite hatred, communal disharmony, and distress among the Hindu community.
