‘Failing Class 10th exam…..’: Owaisi’s dig at ASI over Taj Mahal’s maintenance

Agra: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi took a dig at the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) after a video of water leakage from the main dome of the Taj Mahal went viral.

Blaming ASI, for the proper proper treatment of the monument, he wrote on X that the Archaeological Survey of India earns a lot of money from the Taj Mahal. However, despite that, this is how one of the biggest symbols of Indian culture is treated. Owasisi further said that it was funny that on the one hand, the ASI argues that Waqf monuments should be taken over by it, on the other hand, this is how it maintains the monuments. “This is like failing a 10th class exam and applying for a PhD,” he added further.

ASI attributes leakage to heavy rains

Earlier, a senior ASI official attributed heavy rains in Agra as the cause of the leakage and played down concerns about any possible structural damage to the main roof. Speaking to the news agency PTI, he said that after checking the main dome of the Taj Mahal, the ASI officials did not find any damage to it. He added that the main dome was checked through through a drone camera.

Concerns over video

On Thursday, a 20-second video had gone viral in which the rainwater can be seen seeping through the ivory-white marbles of the main dome. The video had led to concerns over the structural stability of the monument.
