“Ever since the Trump administration’s DOGE said on February 16 that it had canceled $21 million in USAID funding for “voting in India”, the BJP has been leveling fabricated allegations against the Congress,” the farmer Union Minister added further.
Hitting out at the BJP further, Ramesh went on to note, “ Elon Musk made a fake claim, Trump got confused between Dhaka and Delhi, Amit Malviya spread the lie further.” He added that after this, other BJP leaders tried to take advantage of the same and blame the Congress over the matter.
US President slams USAID
Earlier on Saturday, US President Donald Trump slammed the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for providing $18 million in support for India’s election process. Questioning the necessity of the funding, he suggested that India could assist the US with its elections.
“Why the hell? Why don’t we just go to previous paper ballots and let them help us with our elections, right? Voter ID. Wouldn’t that be nice?” Trump said while adding that India does not need financial support for elections.
