Rohtak: A horrifying explosion occurred shortly after a train departed Sampla at 4:20 pm en route to Bahadurgarh, injuring several passengers and igniting a fire in the compartment. The train, which had picked up passengers from Rohtak railway station, experienced the blast in a cargo of sulfur potash being transported on board.
Witnesses said that the chaos erupted as the train left Sampla railway station. Shortly after the explosion, panic ensued, leading to four passengers injuring themselves while attempting to escape the train. That apart, about four people suffered burns to their hands and feet from the flames ignited by the explosion.
Passengers recall calm before chaos
Survivors of the incident recounted their terrifying experience. Passengers seated in the compartment where the fire broke out described a calm atmosphere prior to the incident. However, things took a drastic turn when a fire erupted in the overhead luggage rack, where someone had allegedly stored sulfur potash intended for sale during the Diwali festivities, along with some iron tools.
“The sound of the explosion was deafening. We were all just sitting there when suddenly the fire erupted,” said one passenger, who wished to remain anonymous. “People started screaming, and in the chaos, many jumped out of the train.”
