New Delhi: At least 10 refinery workers suffered severe burn injuries in a massive fire that broke out after a blast at a refinery in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura on Tuesday night. Upon receiving the information, police and fire brigade teams quickly arrived at the scene to tackle the fire. The injured workers were rushed to a hospital in Mathura, where three of them were referred to Delhi for further treatment after their condition became critical.
The incident took place at around 8pm, when a startup activity was being carried out at the ABU plant of the refinery following a shutdown. The blast occurred when a furnace exploded, causing a fierce fire. Ten workers present at the plant were seriously burned by the flames.
The explosion comes just a day after a similar incident in Vadodara
The explosion was heard from a distance, causing panic among the people working at the refinery. Witnesses reported a chaotic scene as workers rushed to escape the fire, while others alerted authorities about the incident. After gaining some control over the fire, they entered the ABU plant and found several workers who were badly burned. The rescue team quickly evacuated them and transported them to the hospital via ambulances.
The explosion comes just a day after a similar incident in Vadodara, Gujarat, where an explosion occurred at the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) refinery in the Koili area. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, as the fire was contained in time by the fire brigade. However, the blaze was so intense that smoke could be seen from several kilometres away.
