New Delhi: The 31-year-old post-graduate medical student was found raped and murdered at the seminar Hall of the RG Kar Medical college and Hospital a month ago. The heinous crime led to the nationwide outrage with violent protests and rallies in West Bengal seeking justice for the victim. There have been allegations and counter allegations that the victim’s families were being bribed to stay silent on the issue.
The West Bengal government led by Mamata Banerjee is under tremendous pressure from BJP for allegedly trying to cover up the incident. After massive upraoar, the case was transfered to CBI by the Calcatta High Court following a plea by victim’s parents. So far, CBI has arrested Sanjay Roy who is believed to be the sole mastermind in the rape and murder case. Roy worked as a civic volunteer at the hospital.
Meanwhile, CBI has claimed there are some hurdles that are preventing the case from getting solved.
Tempering of evidence at crime scene
One of the first hurdles the CBI is facing is the crime scene. The investigating agency believes that it is tough for them to join the dots due to insufficient evidence from the crime scene, according to a CBI official who spoke to PTI. It is alleged that a day after the victim’s body was found on August 10, RK Kar Principal instructed demolition of restroom and a nearby toilet. The agency official believe that the crucial evidence at the crime scene were lost due to the demolition.
Was it a gangrape?
Meanwhile, the victim’s parents, who filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court, have alleged gang-rape of their daughter. The family also suspected that there was tempering of evidence at the crime scene.
Financial bungling at RG Kar
The investigating agency believes that there were multiple people involved in financial irregularities at the hospital, apart from Dr Sandip Ghosh, who has now been arrested by the agency along with three others.
