Excise policy: SC to hear today BRS leader Kavitha’s bail pleas in CBI, ED cases

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear today pleas moved by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha seeking bail in corruption and money laundering cases registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy.

Kavitha’s bail pleas are listed for hearing before a bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Viswanathan.

The apex court earlier issued notice to the CBI and ED on Kavitha’s bail pleas and sought the response of the central agencies.

Kavitha has moved the apex court against Delhi High Court orders

Kavitha has moved the top court against the orders of the Delhi High Court refusing to grant her bail in both CBI and ED cases, saying no case for grant of regular bail to her was made for now in both the cases as the investigation is at a crucial stage.

Kavitha is currently lodged in judicial custody in Tihar Jail

Kavitha, who is the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and a BRS MLC, is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in the judicial custody in both cases in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy “scam”

The ED arrested Kavitha in the money laundering case from her house in Hyderabad on March 15 and she was later arrested by the CBI in the corruption case from Tihar Jail on April 11.

Apex Court recently granted bail to Manish Sisodia in CBI, ED cases

Besides Kavitha, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia have also been arrested in both cases.

A bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Viswanathan recently granted bail to Sisodia in corruption and money laundering cases, noting that there is not even remotest possibility of trial being concluded in near future.
