New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday (November 12) issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a plea filed by former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging summons issued to him on ED’s complaint for skipping summons in Delhi Excise Policy case.
Kejriwal has challenged a September 17 order of the sessions court dismissing his plea challenging the summons issued to him on ED’s complaint in the money laundering case.
Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri, who sought the ED’s response to Kejriwal’s plea, refused to stay the trial in the case, saying that the order challenged by Kejriwal is two months old and not a fresh order.
ED had moved court seeking Kejriwal’s prosecution for skipping multiple summons
The ED had moved the court seeking prosecution of Kejriwal for skipping multiple summoned issued to him in connection with the cases related to the alleged irregularities in the now-defunct Delhi Excise Policy.
The magisterial court had issued summons to Kejriwal after taking cognisance of two complaints filed by the ED over skipping the summons issued to the former Delhi chief minister and had directed him to appear before the court on ED’s complaint. Kejriwal challenged the magisterial court order before a sessions court, which dismissed Kejriwal’s plea challenging the summons.
ED arrested Kejriwal in money laundering case on March 21
This was before the arrest of Kejriwal by the ED in the excise policy-linked money laundering case. Later, the ED arrested Kejriwal in the money laundering case on March 21. Kejriwal, who later moved to the top court challenged the legality of his arrest in the money laundering case, was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in the money laundering case till the decision on his plea by a larger bench.
CBI arrested Kejriwal in corruption case on June 26
Kejriwal was later also arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in excise policy-linked corruption from Tihar Jail on June 26. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in corruption case on September 13.
