New Delhi: A special court on Monday granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) time till August 27 to obtain necessary sanctions to prosecute Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Admi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak in excise policy-linked corruption case registered by the CBI.

The CBI recently filed its final chargesheet in the corruption case against Kejriwal, Pathak and others before the special court. Besides Kejriwal and Pathak, the CBI has made non-executive director of Aurobindo Pharma P Sarath Chandra Reddy, director of Buddy Retail Pvt Ltd Amit Arora, alleged hawala operator Vinod Chauhan and businessman Ashish Mathur accused in the corruption case in its final chargesheet.
CBI earlier filed a main and four supllementary chargesheet in corruption case
Earlier, the CBI had filed a main chargesheet and four supplementary chargesheet in the excise policy-linked corruption case in which former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha and others were also charged.
The special court had earlier fixed August 12 to decide whether to take cognisance of the CBI’s chargesheet against Kejriwal and others in the excise policy-linked corruption case.
Court granted CBI time till August 27 after CBI informed the court that necessary sanctions were yet to be received
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja allowed on Monday granted the CBI 15 days of time till August 27 to obtain the requisite sanctions to prosecute Kejriwal and Pathak after the court was told that the necessary sanctions were yet to be received by the authorities concerned, news agency PTI reported.
The central agency had earlier secured sanctions to investigate them in the case.
Kejriwal is currently lodged in judicial custody in Tihar Jail in corruption case
Kejriwal, who is currently lodged in the judicial custody in Tihar Jail, was first arrested the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an excise policy-linked money laundering case on March 21 and later he was also arrested by the CBI in the corruption case on June 26.
Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in the money laundering case on July 12, however, he continues to remain in judicial custody in the corruption case.
