New Delhi: A special court on Tuesday extended till August 27 the judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Admi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in an excise policy-linked corruption case.
Kejriwal was produced before court via video-conferencing
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja extended the judicial custody of the Delhi Chief Minister after he was produced before the court via video-conferencing on the expiry of the period of his judicial custody earlier granted by the court.
Kejriwal is currently lodged in judicial custody in Tihar Jail in corruption case
Kejriwal, who was also arrested in an excise policy-linked money laundering case, is currently lodged in the judicial custody in the corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy.
Apex court granted Kejriwal interim bail in money laundering case on July 12
The Supreme Court on July 12 granted Kejriwal interim bail in the money laundering case while hearing his plea challenging his arrest by the ED in the money laundering case. The top court, while granting Kejriwal interim bail, referred his plea to a larger bench of the top court, saying that certain legal questions raised by him in his plea challenging his arrest by the ED in the money laundering case need to be considered by a larger bench of the top court.
CBI recently filed supplementary chargesheet against Kejriwal, others in corruption case
The CBI recently filed supplementary chargesheet in the corruption case against Kejriwal, AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak and others in the corruption case and the special court is likely to consider on August 27 the supplementary chargesheet filed against Kejriwal and others.
The special court earlier granted the CBI time till till August 27 to obtain necessary sanctions to prosecute Kejriwal and Pathak and fixed August 27 for further proceedings in the case.
CBI earlier filed a main and four supplementary chargesheet in corruption case
Earlier, the CBI had filed a main chargesheet and four supplementary chargesheet before the court in the excise policy-linked corruption case in which former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha and others have also also charged.
