Kolkata: Former RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandip Ghosh, currently in judicial custody for financial irregularities, faces new allegations of misconduct. A 2017 incident in Hong Kong has come to light, where Ghosh allegedly molested a male nursing student.
Ghosh allegedly molested nursing student
According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post, the student accused Ghosh of inappropriate contact at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Ghosh was participating in a clinical attachment program at the time. The alleged victim reported that Ghosh touched his buttock and attempted to touch his private parts while he was changing clothes. Ghosh claimed the contact was accidental, attributing it to a misunderstanding.
The incident occurred on April 8, 2017, at the hospital in Yau Ma Tei. The nursing student testified against Ghosh, stating he felt violated and uncomfortable.
According to an India Today report, sources in Kolkata have confirmed that Sandip Ghosh, mentioned in the Hong Kong news report, is the same individual currently in CBI custody. He is implicated in financial irregularities at RG Kar College and Hospital, where a postgraduate doctor was tragically raped and killed last month.
Ghosh faces backlash over Kolkata rape-murder
Sandip Ghosh has been at centre of backlash regarding the Kolkata rape and murder case, as he was the principal of RG Kar College when the postgraduate doctor was killed. It is alleged that Ghosh ordered renovations near the crime scene the day after the victim’s body was discovered, which may have resulted in the destruction of crucial evidence. Apart from that, the Enforcement Directorate is conducting a parallel investigation into Ghosh’s financial conduct. He is accused of misappropriating funds during his tenure as principal of the college.
On August 9, the body of a 31-year-old junior doctor was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College. The autopsy revealed evidence of rape and murder. The victim’s family has accused the hospital authorities of attempting to conceal the crime, as they initially informed the parents that their daughter had died by “suicide.”
