Jammu: A continuous operation is being conducted by the security forces to eliminate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The security forces are engaged in encounters in two areas.
One encounter took place in Billawar region of Kathua, while another started in Thanamandi area of Rajouri, where it was reported that 2 to 3 terrorists were hiding. Heavy firing took place between army personnel and the terrorists in both locations.
Constable killed in Billwar encounter
In the first encounter in Billawar, a head constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Bashir Ahmed, was martyred. He was shot while engaging with the terrorists.
Additionally, DSP Sukhbir and ASI Niaz Ahmed were injured during the exchange of fire and were hospitalised. Their conditions were reported to be stable.
Encounter underway in Kathua
Security forces killed one terrorist in the Kathua encounter, while efforts to locate a second terrorist were ongoing. Jammu Zone IPS ADG Anand Jain and DIG JKS Shiv Sharma were on site, overseeing the operation. The area had been cordoned off and security measures were tightened with barricades set up and thorough checks conducted on all vehicles passing through.
Drone images emerged showing the deceased terrorist in Kathua, who was identified as a Pakistani national. According to Anand Jain, the security forces had initiated a search operation on September 28 after receiving intelligence about the presence of three to four foreign terrorists in the region.
In another encounter in Kulgam on September 28, two terrorists were killed, but five security personnel, including a Jammu and Kashmir Police officer, sustained injuries. The deceased terrorists were identified as Aqib Ahmed from Chadura in Shergojri Budgam and Umais Wani from Chawalgam in Kulgam.
Both were believed to be affiliated with the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. Authorities recovered two AK-47 rifles, five magazines, pistols, and other weapons from the site of the encounter.
