New Delhi: With the much-awaited Maha Kumbh Mela beginning in Prayagraj today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation on the occasion and said that the mega event is the symbol of India’s timeless spiritual heritage, which celebrates faith and harmony.
Hailing the devotees coming to Prayagraj from different parts of the country as well as abroad the Prime Minister also expressed hope that the Maha Kumbh Mela would bring a new energy and enthusiasm in the life of the people.

“A very special day for crores of people who cherish Bharatiya values and culture! Maha Kumbh 2025 commences in Prayagraj, bringing together countless people in a sacred confluence of faith, devotion, and culture. The Maha Kumbh embodies India’s timeless spiritual heritage and celebrates faith and harmony,” PM Modi wrote on X.
He added, “On this divine occasion related to our faith and culture, I salute and greet all the devotees from my heart. I wish that this huge festival of Indian spiritual tradition brings new energy and enthusiasm in the life of all of you.” In another message he wrote, “I am happy to see Prayagraj abuzz with countless people coming there, taking the holy dip and seeking blessings. Wishing all pilgrims and tourists a wonderful stay.”

Maha Kumbh Mela begins this morning
The Maha Kumbh Mela commenced early in the morning on Monday, with over 40 lakh people taking the first dip. Several saints from different Akhadas have gathered at the Sangam for the 45-day event. Over 50 lakh people also took the holy dip on Sunday.
Notably, the current edition of the Kumbh is being held after 12 years, even as seers claim the celestial permutations and combinations for the event are taking place after a gap of 144 years, because of which the occasion has become even more auspicious.
