New Delhi: New Zealand defeated India by 8 wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, October 20. Chasing a 107-run target, Bumrah dismissed Tom Latham and Devon Conway to put some pressure on the Blackcaps but Rachin Ravindra and Will Young stitched a 75-run partnership for the third wicket and took their team over the line.
Earlier, India got all out on 46 runs in the first innings after opting to bat first. New Zealand pacers troubled Indian batters with the new ball in overcast conditions. Only two batters crossed the 10-run mark in the first innings. Devon Conway and Tom Latham provided New Zealand a great start and built a 67-run partnership.
Indian bowlers made a fantastic comeback on Day 3 and picked up early wickets but Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee put the pressure back on the Men in Blue and stitched a 137-run partnership for the eighth wicket and helped their team to take a 356-run lead in the first innings.
Rohit and Jaiswal built a 72-run partnership for the opening wicket in the second innings. Ajaz Patel dismissed both Indian openers but Kohli along with Sarfaraz stitched a 136-run partnership for the third wicket. Glenn Phillips dismissed Kohli on the last ball of the day 3.
Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan built a 177-run partnership for the fourth wicket on Day 4. Sarfaraz scored 150 runs off 195 balls, his remarkable knock was laced with 18 boundaries and three maximums. Pant also batted brilliantly and scored 99 runs.
But Kiwi pacers made a sensational comeback with the second new ball as Team India bundled out for 462 runs in the second innings. Will Young, Conway and Rachin Ravindra made crucial contributions with the bat on Day 5 and helped their team to beat India at home for the first time since 1998.
Here are some social media reactions after New Zealand’s victory
Going to be one of the most embarrassing results for India. Losing a home Test to New Zealand. New Zealand! Also a third loss at home in three straight seasons. The fort may appear strong from a distance but cracks are more and more visible now.

After 36 years, NZ Defeated India in India 🥶
If credit for winning matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka goes to Gautam Gambhir then losing against New Zealand must be given to him only. #INDvsNZ pic.twitter.com/86TzULhhri
