Bengaluru’s streets witnessed a tragic weekend as two separate incidents involving speeding vehicles claimed two lives. In the first incident, 30-year-old Sandhya lost her life after being struck by a speeding Mercedes Benz driven by a drunk driver.
The accused, 20-year-old Dhanush, was found to be intoxicated beyond permissible limits and lost control of the car while attempting to cross the road.
The incident occurred Saturday evening in Kengeri, where Sandhya attempted to cross the road. Dhanush, who had been enjoying drinks with a friend at a mall near Yeshwanthpur, decided to go on a late-night drive to Mysuru Road. His father, Veera Shiva, owns a private bus travel company and had recently purchased a luxury car.
Following the accident, Dhanush attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by bystanders who also thrashed him before the police arrived. The Kengeri traffic police promptly arrested Dhanush and remanded him to 14 days in judicial custody, charging him with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
“We have apprehended the accused immediately, and he has been sent to judicial custody,” India Today quoted the DCP of Traffic West as saying.
In a separate incident, a 26-year-old delivery boy was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident on Saturday night. While on his way to pick up his wife from KG Nagar on his bike, he was struck by a speeding car on MV Seetharamaiah Road in Gavipura. The incident occurred at 10:20 pm, leaving the delivery boy dead at the scene.
