Patna: Since the liquor ban in Bihar, the illegal drug trade has taken new forms. In Vaishali district, police busted a drug smuggling operation using needles and injections to distribute drugs, marking a shift from traditional methods like illegal liquor or cough syrup smuggling. This revelation came during a police raid following a tip-off, leading to the arrest of three people in Hajipur.
Authorities previously dealt mostly with cases of illegal liquor and cough syrups, popular among local drug abusers. However, this incident in Hajipur, located near Patna, reflects the evolving strategies of drug traffickers in the state. Last Thursday, officers from Hajipur Industrial Area police station apprehended three people allegedly involved in this new drug trafficking method. The police also confiscated a substantial consignment of drug needles from the suspects’ possession.
How police caught the accused
Vaishali Superintendent of Police (SP) Har Kishore Rai shared details of the case in a public statement. He disclosed that on October 23, officers at the Hajipur Industrial Area police station received confidential information about drug activities at the home of Dholan Chaudhary, a resident of Chhoti Madai in Hajipur.
Acting on this tip, officers quickly held a raid on the house. When they arrived, they found three individuals—later identified as Dholan Chaudhary, Amit Kumar, and Prince Kumar—sorting needles and injections in a room.
Drugs found in needles, injections
When questioned about the drug paraphernalia, the three people failed to provide any legal documentation to explain the presence of the needles and injections. Officers then contacted Hajipur’s drug inspector, who confirmed the substances as psychotropic drugs after conducting drug tests on the confiscated items.
Police arrested the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and brought them to the Industrial Area police station for further legal processing. All three suspects have since been sent to judicial custody.
