New Delhi: In a horrifying incident reminiscent of a plot from the film Drishyam, an Army jawan allegedly killed his girlfriend and covered her body with cement after burying it. The incident was reported from Nagpur and the police have arrested the accused.
After the disappearance of the 32-year-old victim came to light, the cops launched a probe, which revealed a sordid saga of betrayal, deceit, and murder. The case bears has resemblance to Drishyam where the accused executed the murder after meticulous planning, a police official was quoted as saying by PTI. Police said it appears that motive behind the murder was deteriorating romantic relationship of the couple because of opposition from the accused’s family regarding their marriage.
Ajay Wankhede (33), the accused, is a resident of Kailash Nagar area in Nagpur and is based in Nagaland. Investigators said Wankhede had met Jyotsna Aakre, a divorcee, through a marriage portal and their friendship soon turned into romance. However, the situation took an ugly turn when Wankhede’s family objected to their relationship and got him married to another woman, the official said. After this, Wankhede started overlooking Aakre and he may have planned the murder to get rid of her, the cop added.
He offered the victim sedative-laced drink
Wankhede allegedly administered a sedative to Aakre, strangled her to death, and then buried her body in an unfrequented place in Nagpur district. Not stopping at this, he covered her body with cement to conceal the crime, the official said.
Wankhede stopped giving any response to Aakre’s phone calls. So, she started searching for him and eventually reached out to a close friend of his, who told her about Wankhede’s whereabouts. The friend also told Wankhede that Aakre was looking for him, the police said. Wankhede called Aakre using his mother’s mobile phone and asked her to meet him on Wardha Road on August 28.
Aakre told her family that she would stay with a friend that day and come back home after finishing her duties at an automobile shop the next day. Wankhede and Aakre met in the Wardha Road area and went into a hotel. They left the hotel and drove to a nearby toll plaza, where he offered a sedative-laced drink, the cop said. As she fell unconscious, Wankhede killed her and drove to an unfrequented area, where he dug a pit at night, disposed of her body, and covered it with cement. He threw Aakre’s mobile phone into a truck that was passing by on Wardha Road, according to police.
Wankhede’s anticipatory bail was rejected
Aakre’s family filed a missing report at Beltarodi police station on August 29. On September 17, a probe was started and kidnapping case was registered. During the probe, the police checked the call detail records and found that Wankhede and Aakre had spoken regularly over the phone. They called Wankhede for interrogation. To give police the slip, he sought medical attention for high blood pressure at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune.
Wankhede sought anticipatory bail in the sessions court in Nagpur, but his request was turned down. Later, he appealed to the High Court, which also rejected his application on September 15. After his anticipatory bail was rejected, the Beltarodi police took Wankhede into custody. During thorough grilling by the police, Wankhede revealed the crime site. Following this, the police exhumed the body parts on Monday near the Dongargaon toll plaza on Wardha Road in Nagpur.
