Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized Rs 7 crore worth hydroponic weed from two passengers coming from Bangkok at Hyderabad Airport on Friday, reports said.
After searching their check-in luggage, 13 vacuum-packed transparent packets were found in Kelloggs cereal boxes. A green colour substance was recovered from all 13 packets and when tested with a field kit, it tested positive for Cannabis.
The packets which contained 7.096 kgs of weed have been seized and thee two passengers have been arrested under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), 1985 and were remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
NDPS cases in first quarter of 2024:
In the first quarter of 2024, a total of 487 NDPS cases were registered and Marijuana topped the charts, as per Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau. This is a whopping 80.2 percent jump from just 96 cases registered in the pre-pandemic quarter of 2019.
