New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully conducted a flight test of the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) on Thursday afternoon. The test took place at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha at 3pm.
Trial aimed at validating several key upgrades to the missile system
The missile was launched from a land-based vertical launcher, engaging a high-speed aerial target at a low altitude. The system successfully detected, tracked and intercepted the target, marking a successful demonstration of its precision and effectiveness.
The trial was aimed at validating several key upgrades to the missile system including improvements to the Proximity Fuse and the Seeker. The performance of the missile during the test was carefully monitored through a range of instruments, including radar systems, the Electro-Optical Tracking System, and telemetry equipment stationed at the ITR.
