Kota: A 20-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide in his rented accommodation in Rajasthan’s Kota, the coaching hub that has now become infamous due to increasing student suicides.
Ashutosh Chaurasia, a resident of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, was found hanging from the ceiling of his room in the Dadabari locality of Kota last night, police said. A suicide note was found in the room in which the student purportedly mentioned he had been under mental stress for some time and did not want to be a burden on his family.
Police said the deceased was living in Kota for the last 6 months to prepare for the NEET-UG exam to pursue medical sciences. His body was found hanging after the cops were called to break open the door as Ashutosh did not answer calls from his family members and repeated door knocks by other students.
Initial investigation revealed that the youth was suffering from mental stress and was also receiving medical treatment for the same. His body has been kept at the mortuary of MBS Hospital while his family has been informed.
A case of suicide has been lodged in this connection and further investigation is underway. This is the 15th case of student suicide in Kota till now. The city reported 26 such cases last year, triggering a debate on the level of academic stress students preparing for competitive exams face while studying in Kota.
