‘Don’t buy any silk or leather product’: CJI Chandrachud turns ‘vegan’ on daughters’ request

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud has said that he turned vegan and adopted “cruelty-free” lifestyle on his daughters’ request. The CJI said that his two daughters – Priyanka and Mahi – who are specially-abled continue to inspire him in whatever he does. “I have gone vegan recently because my daughter said we should lead a cruelty free life,” he said at the Delhi High Court on Monday.

CJI Chandrachud further said that he does not buy any silk product or any new leather product. “My wife doesn’t buy any silk or leather products either,” he added.

He made the remarks during the launch of Digital Law Reports of Delhi High Court as well as the inauguration of an outlet of Sagar Ratna, which would be run by neuro-diverse people associated with the Shaurya Foundation.

Heaping praises on his daughters, the CJI said that though they are specially-abled, their minds are razor sharp.

CJI Chandrachud had adopted his two daughters in 2015 while he was serving as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. The duo belonged to a village in Uttarakhand. Before moving to Delhi, he arranged for their education at his home in Allahabad. In Delhi, they girls went to Tamanna School and the Sanskriti School.

“We never imagined that these girls would come into our lives, but I feel that they have reshaped our lives in so many ways,” CJI Chandrachud had said in a media interview.
