Doctors in UP leave towel inside woman’s belly during delivery; probe ordered

New Delhi: In a shocking case of medical negligence, a private hospital in UP’s Aligarh left a towel inside a woman’s abdomen during her delivery. It was only discovered after the woman’s health deteriorated. The incident came out last week when the woman underwent another surgery to remove the towel.

An investigation has been launched into the incident after the public outrage.

Woman experiences severe pain

The woman was admitted to Shiv Mahima Hospital on GT Road in Aligarh for the delivery of her twin daughters. During the procedure doctors inadvertently left a towel inside her belly. She was discharged after the delivery but the 28-year-old soon began to experience severe abdominal pain.

As her condition worsened her family took her to another hospital, where the discovery was made.

“The hospital doctors sent us away with just medication, even though my wife was in severe pain. Their negligence put her life at serious risk,” said the woman’s husband.

Family demands action against hospital

“We have received complaints of negligence during the operation, as well as reports of overcharging by the hospital. A team has been formed to investigate these allegations, and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible,” said Dr Neeraj Tyagi, CMO Aligarh, while talking to Times of India.

The woman’s family has demanded strict action against the hospital.
