New Delhi: The chairman of a housing society in Taloja was detained by the police in Navi Mumbai after he and some others issued threats to residents celebrating Diwali by lighting up their complex, as per a Times of India report.
The showdown took place on Tuesday, after which a complaint was lodged against the chairman under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 79, which pertains to acts that are intended to insult a woman’s modesty, and sections 352 and 351(2), which address intentional insults and criminal intimidation, the report added.
Police reports said that the confrontation broke out when one group of residents started decking up the complex with lights for the Diwali celebrations.
The chairman and some members of the society raised objection to the festivities, after which there was a heated exchange of words. There are allegations that the chairman and his aides abused the residents verbally and said that they will face severe consequences if they did not stop their celebrations. After he was booked, the police took the chairman into custody. The probe into the entire incident is on.
