Mumbai: Netizens expressed their concerns after an X user’s post about Zomato’s ‘analogue paneer’, sold on its B2B website Hyperpure, went viral. The user wondered how many restaurants were using analogue paneer aka fake paneer without intimating consumers.
Sumit Behal took to the social platform to express his concerns about restaurants using Zomato’s ‘analogue paneer’. The fake paneer, marketed as perfect for tikka and gravy dishes, is much cheaper than the real one. In his post, Behal alleged the use of fake paneer by restaurants without any disclaimer to their customers. He spoke of how those eating paneer from such restaurants might be thinking of it as a healthy option.
Zomato criticised for selling ‘analogue paneer’ to restaurants
“India loves paneer dishes and restaurants sell fake paneer made with vegetable oils without any disclaimer. They made you believe that you are eating healthy food by eating varieties of paneer dishes over junk food,” said Behal from Gurgaon. The man also shared a screenshot of the product’s availability on Zomato’s Hyperpure.
Netizens were shocked by the post. Many said it was ‘disappointing’ and claimed they would stick to eating home-cooked food. “How will the poor customer know what he is eating? RIP food standards,” said one. Another said, “Don’t trust restaurants, instead spend that money on purchasing high-quality groceries.”
What is analogue paneer and how is it made?
