New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at TV9 Group’s What India Thinks Today (WITT) Summit highlighted his government’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring transparency. Delivering the keynote address at the summit, PM Modi added that those who have looted public funds will be made to return them.
Discussing the role of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the PM said that that despite criticism, the agency has successfully recovered over Rs 22,000 crore from corruption and financial irregularities. He emphasised that the recovered amount is being returned to the rightful owners—India’s citizens.
Government’s stand against corruption
PM Modi reaffirmed Union government’s dedication to eradicating corruption. He criticised past governments for allowing corrupt practices to flourish and assured that under his leadership, no one is above the law.
“Earlier, corruption was an accepted norm, but today, every corrupt individual is being held accountable. The ED and other investigative agencies are working with complete impartiality to bring justice,” the Prime Minister said. He further said that crores of rupees in illegal assets have been confiscated as part of Centre’s anti-corruption drive.
Reforms and transparency
PM Modi also shed light on the administrative reforms undertaken by his government. He pointed out that previous administrations expanded ministries unnecessarily, leading to inefficiency. His government, he said, has streamlined various departments, making governance more effective.
Moreover, he mentioned about the efforts to increase transparency in welfare schemes. “Earlier, millions of fake beneficiaries exploited government schemes, but now we have eliminated these discrepancies. Every taxpayer’s contribution is being respected and used efficiently,” he said. He also highlighted improvements in the income tax filing process, making it simpler and more transparent for citizens.
Praise for TV9 Group
PM Modi commended TV9 Group for providing a vital platform for discussions on the country’s progress. He acknowledged the group’s growing global reach and congratulated its leadership and viewers on the success of the summit.
