New Delhi: Several parts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, woke up to dense fog on Friday morning. Delhi and its neighboring regions, including Ghaziabad and Noida, experienced visibility dropping to zero in some areas.
Along with the fog, cold wave conditions are likely to grip isolated areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh on January 10.
Dense fog alert for Rajasthan
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog will continue during the night and early morning hours in several parts of Punjab till January 11 and in Haryana and Chandigarh on January 10. Isolated areas of Uttar Pradesh will also witness similar conditions on January 10, while Rajasthan is likely to experience dense fog on January 12.
In Bihar, dense fog is expected during the nighttime and early hours from January 10 to 12. Jharkhand will face similar weather on January 10 and 11, while Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, and several northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are likely to experience dense fog till January 11. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are forecast to see dense fog on January 11 and 12, while Rajasthan will face recurring foggy conditions from January 11 to 14.
Cold wave conditions are likely to persist in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh, intensifying the winter chill.
Rain forecast for UP, Bihar
There is severe cold in UP too. According to IMD, the weather in the state is expected to change once again in the next 24 hours. Many parts of the state will remain cloudy from January 10-12 and there may be light to moderate rain.
Cold wave conditions prevail in Bihar due to cold westerly winds.
Flight operations affected in Delhi
The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) issued an advisory warning of potential flight disruptions. The air quality in Delhi-NCR has worsened, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 409 in the ‘severe’ category at 6.05 am.
