New Delhi: Amid ongoing protests over the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, patients in Delhi are facing difficulties.
While emergency services are still being provided, its the OPD that is affected, now, the resident doctors from AIIMS and other hospitals in Delhi have announced that they will provide free outpatient services on the road outside the health ministry at Nirman Bhawan in the capital, starting today.

‘Adequate security in hospitals’
The AIIMS’ Resident Doctors Association in a statement said, “Till we are assured of adequate security in hospitals through a Central Protection Act, this would continue.”
Meanwhile, in rare move, Supreme Court on Sunday took suo motu cognisance of the rape-murder of the doctor.
Suo motu criminal writ petition in SC
This comes days after the Calcutta high court’s recent transfer of the investigation to the CBI, citing concerns over the Kolkata Police’s handling of the case.
CJI D Y Chandrachud has ordered the registration of a suo motu criminal writ petition. A bench, also comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, is set to begin proceedings at 10.30am on Tuesday. The bench is expected to seek responses from both the West Bengal and Union governments on how they plan to address this issue.
