The capital city of Delhi continues to face the aftermath of heavy rains, resulting in widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The flood situation has created challenges for commuters, with many roads submerged and the overall traffic system in disarray. However, there is some respite as the water level of the Yamuna river recedes at a rate of 5 cm per hour, according to the Delhi government. The situation is expected to improve significantly by Sunday.
Roads closed due to waterlogging
While traffic movement is slowly resuming, some roads in Delhi remain closed due to waterlogging and fallen trees. The Delhi Traffic Police has advised citizens to avoid specific routes, including Khan Market, Teen Murti Gol Chakkar, GGR-PDR, A-Point to W-Point, Kamla Express Building, Andrews Ganj, Khanpur T-Point, and the under Railway Bridge at Bhairon Marg, as these areas are severely affected.
Certain roads reopened for traffic
However, there is positive news as certain routes have been reopened for traffic. Boulevard Road, Chandgi Ram Akhara to Mukarba Chowk carriageway, and Chandgi Ram Akhara to IP College carriageway are now accessible. Traffic movement is normal in the Pragati Maidan tunnel, Bhairon Marg from Mathura Road to Ring Road carriageway, Vikas Marg from ITO to Laxmi Nagar, both carriageways from Shanti Van to Geeta Colony, and Nishad Raj Marg.
Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi provided an update on traffic, stating that Kashmere Gate ISBT, Bhairon Marg, and Metcalfe House Road have been reopened for vehicular movement after water receded. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a cabinet meeting and deployed ministers to the flood-affected districts to ensure proper facilities at relief camps. The government aims to coordinate relief efforts, including provisions of food, water, toilets, and electricity, to support those affected by the floods.
