New Delhi: As vote counting progresses in Delhi’s 2025 Assembly elections, early trends indicate a potential BJP comeback after almost three decades. The BJP is demonstrating strong performance, particularly in South Delhi, where several key constituencies are proving to be highly contested.
One such fiercely contested seat is Kalkaji, where the battle between AAP’s Atishi (Delhi’s Chief Minister), BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri, and Congress’ Alka Lamba is captivating the city’s attention. Early trends show Atishi trailing behind Bidhuri, a significant development considering the AAP’s dominance in recent years. This seat holds special significance for the BJP, which hasn’t won Kalkaji since 1993, making Bidhuri’s performance crucial for the party’s overall success.
Okhla, a Muslim-dominated constituency, is also under intense scrutiny. In the 2020 elections, AAP’s Amanatullah Khan won decisively with 130,367 votes, securing a margin of 71,827 and a 66.03 per cent vote share. This election witnessed a multi-party contest including AAP, BJP, Congress, AIMIM and several independent candidates. While early trends show the BJP leading from Okhla, its outcome will be key in gauging the overall performance of both AAP and BJP in South Delhi.
Badarpur, another constituency in South Delhi, presents a different picture. Early trends show AAP’s Ram Singh Netaji leading, challenging the BJP’s incumbent MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri. The contest in Badarpur is a tight three-cornered fight between AAP’s Ram Singh Netaji, BJP’s Narayan Dutt Sharma, and Congress’ Arjun Singh Bhadana.
