New Delhi: The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled in February this year. With the elections in mind next month, the Election Commission of India may announce date for Delhi polls 2025 next week on Jan 6 or 7.
With the election commission making preparations, there are possibilities that the polls may be conducted around February 12. On Friday, the election commission also held meet with its officials with a view to prepare for elections.
Election before CEC’s retirement on February 18 ?
It is believed that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar may retire on February 18 and the commission may announce it after the publication of final electoral rolls, said a report in Hindi Daily Dainik Jagran. The report also suggest that election commission wants to complete Delhi polls before Feb 18 in view of Rajiv Kumar’s retirement.
The tenure of the Delhi assembly is expiring on February 23. Citing sources, the report said the EC wants to conduct the polls in the under the supervision of Rajiv Kumar. The sources said that commission was think of conducting polls after February 18, but changed its mind in view of Kumar’s retirement.
Election campaign reaches high pitch
Meanwhile, almost all major political parties including BJP, AAP and Congress have announced most of their candidates for the 70-member Delhi Assembly. The election campaign in the national capital has touched high pitch with BJP and AAP accusing each other of tampering with voter list.
