Dehradun: Ahead of the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, the state’s traffic directorate has started its preparation for the proper traffic management in view of the possibility of increase in the number of devotees after the Dehradun-Delhi expressway becomes functional.
The construction works of Delhi-Dehradun expressway are almost completed. The devotees, who will go to Gangotri and Yamunotri, may be allowed to enter Dehradun city. The traffic directorate is already planning to manage the traffic for the vehicles entering the city after the inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun expressway.
Three phases of Delhi-Dehradun expressway
The 210-km-long Delhi-Dehradun expressway will be started in four phases. The first phase is the stretch between the Akshardham (Delhi) to the Eastern Peripheral expressway (EPE). The second phase is the stretch between EPE and Ganeshpur (Saharanpur). The third phase is the stretch between Ganeshpur to Dehradun.
Traffic management after the opening of expressway
After the opening of Delhi-Dehradun expressway, the increase in the number of devotees for the Char Dham Yatra from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh is expected. Since most of the devotees prefer to begin their Char Dham Yatra after visiting Gangotri and Yamunotri, the traffic directorate has swung into action to manage the possible traffic load during the upcoming Yatra season.
Plans for avoiding problems of traffic jams for devotees
With the possibility of sudden growth in the number of devotees reaching Uttarakhand, the routes are being identified for the traffic diversion. The traffic department aims to ensure that devotees do not face any traffic problem during their stay in the state for the Char Dham Yatra.
Aim to free Dehradun city from traffic jam during Char Dham Yatra
The directorate also plans to free Dehradun city from the problem of traffic jams during their Char Dham Yatra. The traffic directorate is working in coordination with the transport and tourism departments to ensure proper management of the crowd as well as traffic movement. The tourism department is likely to identify Yatra checking points from where devotees will pass during their Char Dham Yatra.
