Dehradun: Vehicles have started operating on the newly opened six-lane stretch from Asharodi to Daat Kali temple in Dehradun, a crucial part of the 213-km Delhi-Doon expressway.
Before the construction of the expressway, this stretch was a significant bottleneck for travelers. However, the new tunnel near Daat Kali has alleviated congestion, and the six-lane road has further reduced travel time, enhancing the driving experience for commuters.
This section serves as the main entry and exit point to the state capital
This 3.5-km section serves as the main entry and exit point to the state capital from the Saharanpur side and extends the 12-km elevated road from Dehradun to Ganeshpur. This stretch is considered Asia’s longest elevated wildlife corridor, passing through Rajaji National Park and Shivalik Reserve Forest area.
Project’s inauguration is awaiting official confirmation
Pankaj Mourya, Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), confirmed the development. He stated, “The six-lane road has been built over the previous two-way lane, since it was impractical to close the route, as it would completely halt traffic to and from Dehradun.” Mourya further mentioned that the project’s inauguration is awaiting official confirmation. “The portion under our Dehradun unit is nearly complete, with only minor work remaining,” he added.
All six lanes are open
The newly opened 3.5-kilometer stretch from Datkali to Asharodi of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has been made accessible to the public in the fourth phase. Initially, three lanes were operational, but now all six lanes are open, offering much-needed relief to commuters. The most improved section, the fourth phase of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, connects Ganeshpur village in Uttar Pradesh to Asharodi.
20-kilometer-long stretch is under construction in three packages
This 20-kilometer-long stretch is under construction in three packages. The fourth section includes two elevated sections, each 200 meters long. The first package covers a distance of 8.3 kilometers from Ganeshpur to Mohand town, while the second package covers the 8.08-kilometer stretch from Mohand town to the Datkali Tunnel. The third package includes the 3.4-kilometer stretch from the Datkali Tunnel to the Asharodi Check Post, which is now fully operational.
Six-lane expressway will improve transportation infrastructure and promote economic growth and development in the region
The entire six-lane expressway, costing Rs 12,000 crore, is expected to be completed soon this year. The project aims to provide seamless connectivity and reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun, benefiting both residents and tourists. The six-lane expressway will not only improve transportation infrastructure but also promote economic growth and development in the region. The enhanced connectivity is anticipated to boost tourism, trade, and overall quality of life for the people of Uttarakhand and neighboring states.
