New Delhi: A city court on Thursday (February 6) fixed February 19 to hear a criminal complaint case filed by Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.
Additional chief judicial magistrate Paras Dalal, who was supposed to hear the matter on Thursday, deferred the hearing on the matter after the lawyer representing the AAP leaders sought time to argue on the point of cognisance on the complaint.
Dikshit contested Delhi assembly polls against Arvind Kejriwal
Dikshit, who contested the Delhi assembly polls against former Delhi chief minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi assembly seat, has alleged that Atishi and Singh “deliberately” caused harm to his goodwill.
The court had earlier on January 16 issued notice to Atishi and Singh on Dikshit’s complaint.
Allegations levelled by AAP leaders baseless: Dikshit
Dikshit, the former Congress MP, has claimed that the AAP leaders Atishi and Singh made defamatory allegations against him and his party (Congress) at a press conference where the AAP leaders allegedly said that Dikshit not only took crores of rupees from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but his party also colluded with the BJP to defeat AAP. The Congress leader has said that the allegations by the AAP leaders against him were baseless and without substantiating the allegations with any material evidence.
May consider not prosecuting AAP leaders if they withdrew defamatory allegations, Dikshit earlier told court
Dikshit on January 27 told the court that he may consider not prosecuting the AAP leaders if they withdrew the defamatory allegations against him.
Additional chief judicial magistrate Paras Dalal, while taking note of the submission made by Dikshit’s counsel, had said that parties in the case were at liberty to explore the possibility of an out-of-court settlement.
“Counsel for proposed accused (AAP leaders) submits that some pages of the complaint supplied to them are deficit. Counsel for the complainant is directed to supply the copy of complaint with annexures to the opposite side. Both parties are at liberty to explore the possibility of settlement outside the court before the next date of hearing,” the court had said while fixing the matter for hearing on February 6 on AAP leaders’ request seeking time to argue on cognisance of Dikshit’s criminal complaint.
