Dehradun: While families celebrated Diwali together, some elderly people longed for the presence of loved ones. In response, the Uttarakhand Police took a heartwarming initiative that made Diwali memorable for these seniors. Recognizing that not everyone experiences the joy and light of the festival, the police reached out to elderly individuals living alone.
The officers visited their homes, inquired about their well-being, and wished them a Happy Diwali, bringing tears of joy to many. This commendable initiative assured the elderly that they are not alone and that the police are there for them in every situation. The effort has been praised widely for its compassion and community spirit.
Elderly people became emotional seeing police officers at their doorstep
Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh instructed all the station in-charges to go to the residents of elderly people living alone in their police station area on the occasion of Diwali and wish them best on behalf of Doon police family. According to the Dehradun police, most of the elderly people got emotional when they saw the police officers at their doorstep to wish them on the occasion of Diwali. “Many of them gave their blessings and caressed our foreheads when we expressed our concern towards these people living alone” said a police officer in Dehradun.
Instructions for all station in-charges to visit the homes of senior citizens in their respective areas
Diwali, a festival of happiness and enthusiasm, is usually celebrated with family and gaiety. However, some people are unable to celebrate with their loved ones. To address their loneliness and bring a sense of security, SSP Dehradun has initiated a new program. All station in-charges have been instructed to visit the homes of senior citizens in their respective areas, especially those living alone, to check on their well-being and wish them a Happy Diwali, ensuring they feel supported by the police.
Doon Police visited 2072 senior citizens houses in various police station areas
Continuing this initiative, Doon Police visited the homes of around 2072 senior citizens across various police station areas in the district, including 260 who live alone. They extended Diwali wishes on behalf of the Doon Police family. Following SSP Dehradun’s instructions, they presented sweets to all senior citizens and respectfully inquired about their well-being, ensuring they felt supported by the police in both happy and challenging times.
