Dehradun: In the initial vote-counting trends for the Uttarakhand civic elections, independent candidates are emerging as strong contenders, posing a significant challenge to the national parties, the BJP and the Congress. According to official data from the State Election Commission, independents have gained leads in several constituencies across the state. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also maintaining a notable lead.
Early results have begun to trickle in for some seats, with independents offering stiff competition to both national parties in many constituencies. As reported by the State Election Commission, independents have already secured victories in some councillor and member categories, including the chairman/mayor positions. However, these figures reflect initial trends, and the final results are yet to be declared.
Dehradun Municipal Election Results
As per the figures from the Uttarakhand Election Commission, the BJP has taken an early lead over the Congress, while independent candidates continue to perform well in the vote counting.
Elections were conducted for the posts of chairman/mayor in 100 civic bodies across Uttarakhand, alongside 1,282 councillor/member positions. According to the latest official data, the BJP has secured three chairman posts and is leading in nine others. Similarly, four independent candidates are leading for the chairman/mayor positions, while four candidates from the Indian National Congress are also ahead in the same category.
