Chennai: In preparation for the upcoming Deepavali festival, the Tamil Nadu Transport Department has announced a comprehensive travel plan to facilitate smooth and convenient journeys for the passengers with the total of 14,086 buses, including 8,065 special buses, will be operated across the state from October 28, (Monday) to 30, (Wednesday).
The Deepavali special bus services will ply from three main bus terminus in Chennai including Kilambakkam Bus Stand, Koyambedu Bus Stand, and Madhavaram Bus Stand in North Chennai. These buses will connect various destinations across the state, including Puducherry, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Trichy, Madurai, Thoothukudi, Sengottai, Tirunelveli, Salem, Coimbatore, Vandavasi, and Thiruvannamalai.

“Approximately 5.83 lakh people are expected to travel to their hometowns during this period. About 11,176 buses, including 4,900 special buses, will be operated from Chennai, while 2,910 additional buses will ply from other districts,” a senior official from the transport department said.
The Transport Department in Chennai has arranged for special bus services to facilitate travel for those heading home for Diwali, which falls on October 31.
Similarly, 9,441 buses, including 3,165 special buses, will be operated from November 2 to 4 for the return journey. The Transport Minister, Sivasankar, attended a meeting to finalize these arrangements, ensuring a convenient and smooth travel experience for passengers.
