New Delhi: The death toll in the three-storey house collapse in Zakir Nagar rose to 10 on Sunday, with rescue operations still underway. According to reports, one individual is believed to still be trapped under the debris.
Fifteen got trapped under debris
The deceased have been identified as Sajid (40), his daughter Saniya (15), son Saqib (11), Simra (18 months), Reeza (7), Naffo (63), Farhana (20), Alisa (18), Aliya (6), and Rimsa (5 months). Among those injured, Naeem (22), Nadeem (26), Saqib (20), and Saina (38) are currently receiving treatment at the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College. The building collapsed on Saturday afternoon, trapping 15 people inside.
Operation to continue till all debris is cleared
Meerut district magistrate Deepak Meena while talking to reporters said, “When the rescue operation began, family members reported that 15 people were inside the building. Three managed to escape as the building was collapsing.” He added, “The death toll has reached 10, while five survivors have been rescued. The operation will continue until all debris is cleared.”
The bodies have been sent to the medical college for post-mortem examination. Senior officials, including Meerut Zone additional director general of police D K Thakur, divisional commissioner Selva Kumari J, inspector general of police Nachiketa Jha, and senior superintendent of police Vipin Tada, are overseeing the rescue operation. Teams from the NDRF, fire brigade, and police are involved in the rescue efforts.
