New Delhi: Days after three civil services aspirants died in the flooding of the basement of a coaching institute in Delhi, a similar incident was reported in Rajasthan’s Jaipur where three people, including a 4-year-old child, drowned in flooded basements of two houses.
While two people, including a 19-year-old woman and the child were trapped in the basement of a house, a young man was stuck in another house after water entered there. The incident took place at Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKI) in Dhwajnagar in Jaipur.
A rescue operation was launched by a team of SDRF and locals. The bodies of all three people have been retrieved from the two houses. “Today morning we received the information, when we reached the spot, there was 30 feet water here…currently we are pumping out water to reduce the water level,” Asrar Ahmed, a Civil Defense official, said.
Speaking to reporters over the incident, Amit Kumar, DCP West, said, “There were reports of three people trapped in the basement. A woman, her niece and a man were trapped. Water entered the housed due to the collapse of a wall. The people got stuck and they did not get time to come out. It will take one and a half hours to drain out the water.”
Jaipur has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past few days. The incessant downpour in Rajasthan’s capital has led to severe waterlogging in several low-lying areas and submerging major areas.
