New Delhi: Daljit Singh Chawdhary, an IPS officer from the 1990 batch belonging to the Uttar Pradesh cadre, assumed the role of director general of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday. Before the appointment, Chawdhary was serving as the director general of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
“Assignment of additional charge of the post of DG, BSF to Shri Daljit Singh Chawdhary, IPS(UP: 90), DG, SSB upon repatriation of Shri Nitin Agarwal, IPS (KL:89) till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a notification on Saturday.
Centre shuffles top brass in BSF
The Centre has appointed Chawdhary as the new Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) and replaced Nitin Agarwal who was prematurely repatriated to Kerala. That apart, Yogesh Khurania, a 1990 IPS officer, has been sent back to Odisha and appointed DGP. These changes come amid a surge in terror attacks in Jammu, where the BSF operates along the India-Pakistan border, which resulted in casualties among army and security personnel, along with the civilians. The BSF is responsible for securing India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

3. Before current appointment, Chawdhary served as the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) from January 23, 2024, overseeing India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
4. Chawdhary is a skilled marksman and qualified skydiver, showcasing his adventurous and daring personality.
5. Throughout his illustrious career, Chawdhary has received many awards, including four Police Medals for Gallantry, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal, demonstrating his exceptional service and bravery.
