Cyclone Dana: The eastern part of India are bracing for severe cyclonic storm Dana’s impact which is likely to make a landfall on Odisha and West Bengal coasts on Thursday (October 24). The Odisha, West Bengal governments are taking precautionary measures; the schools will remain closed in various districts of West Bengal and Odisha and fishermen have been asked not to venture into seas.
The schools will be closed in these districts of West Bengal- South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Jhargram, and Hooghly from October 23 to 26. The schools, colleges will remain closed in 14 districts of Odisha from October 23 to 25. The districts are- Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack.
Cyclone Dana is likely to hit the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha on October 24 resulting in heavy rainfall, as per IMD. The IMD issued a heavy rain alert for districts in West Bengal, Odisha. The heavy rainfall is likely to be occured in districts of East Midnapore, West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and Jhargram.

IMD in its official X handle mentioned, “The Cyclonic Storm “DANA” is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal by early morning of 24th and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts during night of 24th to morning of 25th October, 2024 as a severe Cyclonic Storm. As a result isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal on 24th and 25th October 2024.”
