New Delhi: The coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal along the Bay of Bengal are bracing for the landfall of cyclone Dana which has intensified into a “severe cyclonic storm” and is predicted to bring gusty winds that could gain up to 100-120 kmph speed as the time of impact.
Around 3 lakh people have been evacuated from identified danger zones in Odisha as authorities continue to shift people to safety besides prepping up measures to be taken at the time of the landfall.
According to the IMD, cyclone Dana will make landfall between Thursday midnight and Friday morning near Puri and Sagar Island in West Bengal, close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara in Odisha. Meanwhile, in West Bengal, several districts were lashed by moderate to heavy rains on Thursday morning as the cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ inched closer to the state’s coast.
