Chennai: A low-pressure area forming over the Middle East Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a storm by October 23, prompting Tamil Nadu to brace for heavy rain and thunderstorms. The storm will move northwest, reaching the Orissa-West Bengal coast by October 24 morning.
According to the Chennai Meteorological Center, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning will occur in many areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from October 21 to 23.

Heavy to very heavy rain is predicted in Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Karur, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai districts.
