New Delhi: Allahabad High Court judge Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav has made a disturbing statement where he allegedly said that the country will run as per the wishes of the majority community.
He made the controversial statement while attending a function of right-wing Hindu organisation Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Prayagraj. The topic of the conference organised by legal cell of VHP was ‘Constitutional Necessity of Uniform Civil Code’.
‘What benefits majority will be accepted’
This is Hindustan and this country (India) will run as per the wishes of the majority community. The law of the country, in fact, works as per the majority. Keeping in view the context of family and society, what benefits the majority and relates to their welfare and happiness, will be accepted,” a report in LiveLaw quoted Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav as saying.
During his lecture, Justice Yadav also raised the issue of Muslims having wives. Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav claimed that while Hindu community have abolished the practices of Sati, untouchability and Jauhar, the Muslim community continues practice polygamy (Having multiple wives). The judge said that such a practice is unacceptable.

Justice Yadav also asserted that certain community (Muslims) still claim they have a right to multiple wives, practice Halala and Triple Talaq, while at the same time Hindu scriptures treat women as goddesses.
The Allahabad High Court judge’s statement came during his address on the Uniform Civil Code that proposes uniform laws to all the citizens of the country irrespective of caste and religion. Such laws would likely apply to marriage, adoption, inheritance among others.
