New Delhi: Sulkhan Singh, who was the Director General of Police (DGP) during the first term of the Yogi Adityanath government, has raised questions on the fake encounters by the police, He also warned policemen not to indulge in fake encounters as they will be the ultimate sufferers.
The former Uttar Pradesh DGP said he has written a Facebook post regarding policemen who are languishing in jail after facing charges of fake encounters. Singh pointed out that policemen do this (fake encounters) for money, for influence and for personal gains, which is wrong. He added that it happens in every government.
“If someone says that there is pressure from the government, then that’s not the case; cops do this for money, for influence, for their own benefits,” the former DGP said. Police have no right to carry out fake encounters, he stressed.
He also said that those involved in alleged fake encounters will be ultimate sufferers at the fag end of their careers and even when they face a harrowing ordeal in jail, nobody will come to their rescue.
Singh said, “I will not comment anything on the encounters that are based on caste and religion considerations.” The British police was better than today’s police as the working style of the police has seen a downslide now, he claimed. Earlier, the police did not indulge in fake arrest or illegal detentions, they did not detain family members of a criminal or demolish their houses, Singh said.
Sulkhan Singh had sought CBI inquiry into Mukhtar Ansari’s death
Some time back, Singh had reportedly sought a CBI inquiry into the circumstances that led to the death of jailed gangster Mukhtar Ansari. “Mukhtar Ansari himself had also alleged that he was being given slow poison. The state government should immediately recommend a CBI investigation into this matter, so that the truth can come out,” he had told reporters then.
Last year in November, he also officially unveiled his political venture – the Bundelkhand Loktantrik Party (BLP). Singh had expressed the party’s commitment to launch a movement advocating for the creation of a separate Bundelkhand state.
In April 2017, Sulkhan Singh took charge as DGP of UP and vowed to crush “goondagardi” in the state, while warning that even VIPs would not be spared.
