Kathua: Amid the ongoing elections in Jammu and Kashmir, a policeman was killed and two officers were injured after a gunbattle broke out with terrorists in the Kathua district of Union Territory. While the exchange of fire is still continuing, Senior police and other officials reached the spot immediately after receiving the information. While the two phases of elections are already over the third phase is scheduled to be held on October 1.
As per officials, the martyred policeman has been identified as Head Constable Bashir Ahmed. Among the two injured included an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and a deputy superintendent of police (operations). The exchange of fire began around 5:30 pm on Saturday after security forces began a joint search operation after receiving information that a group of terrorists were hiding inside a house.

Terrorists started firing indiscriminately after forces reached near the house where security personnel were hiding. This led to retaliation by the security forces. While the area has been cordoned off, more reinforcements have reached the spot, PTI soldiers.
Drones deployed in the area
Sharing further details, the officials that the exchange of fire was stopped after the initial firing however, the same started late in the evening as terrorists wanted to escape by taking advantage of the darkness. Security officials have deployed drones and other gadgets to keep track of terrorists. The firing continued to take place between terrorists and security forces when the last report of the incident was received.
