Panaji: Hitting another milestone in India’s infrastructure, Goa got the country’s first-ever cable bridge built on a curve in Vasco town, greatly improving connectivity in the state and significantly reducing dust pollution on internal roads in the state.
On Tuesday, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the bridge that connects Sada to Varunapuri and the Goa International Airport in Dabolim. The inaugural ceremony was attended by local government officials.
Key features of the Goa Cable bridge
- The bridge, which links Sada to Varunapuri and the Goa International Airport, features a unique 180-degree curvature radius, making it the first of its kind in India.
- This innovative structure is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity, offering smoother and more efficient access to key locations in Goa.
- Heavy cargo vehicles will now be directed to the bridge which would reduce the dust pollution on internal roads in Sada and nearby areas by around 60 per cent.
- These vehicles will now use the bridge, bringing much-needed relief to the people residing in these areas.
- A spokesperson for the Goa government highlighted the transformative impact of these projects, designed to improve connectivity between the state’s two airports and ports.
- These initiatives are seen as vital for boosting logistical efficiency and driving economic growth in Goa.
During the inauguration ceremony, Gadkari also laid the foundation stone for four projects of Rs 2,500 crore which will focus on widening critical stretches of national highways to improve traffic flow and connect key economic regions.
The foundation stones were laid for Ponda to Bhoma section (NH-748) which facilitates connectivity between Ponda, Bandora, Priol, Cuncoliem, Cundaim, Bhoma, Corlim, Old Goa and Panaji, Zuari-Margao Bypass (NH-66), Navelim- Cuncolim section, and Bendordem-Karnataka Border (NH-66) project costing Rs 1,376.12 crore.
