New Delhi: A woman leader was allegedly molested during a Congress rally in Narnaund, Haryana, on Friday, October 4. Congress MP Kumari Shailaja has strongly condemned the incident, saying she spoke directly with the victim, who confirmed the molestation. “I have verified this with her,and if such an incident can occur today, what could be more appalling and reprehensible?” Shailaja said.
MP Kumari Shailaja said that during her conversation with the victim Sonia Duhan, she said being physically harassed by people who touched and elbowed her and tried to remove her from the stage. Shailaja also confirmed having seen the video of the incident and expressing outrage. She said that such behaviour towards a woman is deplorable and called for boycotting those responsible and taking strict action.
Meanwhile, the video showing the alleged molestation of Sonia Duhan has gone viral on social media. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya shared the clip, and wrote the caption, “A female Congress leader is molested in front of Congress MP Deepender Hooda at a public meeting, yet Congress leaders remain silent.” He added that the incident has sparked huge anger among farmer groups against the Congress.
Who is Sonia Duhan?
At just 21, Sonia Duhan embarked on her political career. Born in 1992 in Hisar, Haryana, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Kurukshetra University. Afterward, she moved to Pune for pilot training, where she met NCP chief Sharad Pawar. This encounter inspired her to enter politics, leading her to join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), where she became active in its student wing.
