New Delhi: Congress general secretary KC Venugopal on Friday summoned Himachal Pradesh cabinet minister Vikramaditya Singh to New Delhi to discuss his controversial remarks regarding a new policy mandating eateries to display ownership information. Venugopal said the importance of party unity, stating that no minister or party member should contradict Congress policies and ideologies. He said that Rahul Gandhi promotes love and unity, rather than hatred, clarifying that Singh claimed he was misquoted by the media.
After the meeting, Singh said that most discussions focused on enhancing the party’s organisational activities. He said that the interests of the party and the people of Himachal Pradesh are paramount. Singh also said the formation of a committee to address the issue of displaying ownership details, saying that the committee would involve members from both the opposition and the ruling party to ensure comprehensive dialogue.

State Congress Committee chief Pratibha Singh supported Vikramaditya Singh. She said that there was no malicious intent behind the recent controversy. She said, “There was no such intention behind this controversy that has arisen. A committee has been formed, comprising senior members, to determine the appropriate actions regarding this matter. The next decision will be made according to the instructions of the party’s high command.” She also said that the government committee includes members from the opposition and that they will proceed collaboratively after consulting with everyone and securing collective consent.

Vikramaditya Singh, the state public works minister, on Wednesday announced that it will be mandatory for all shopkeepers and street vendors in Himachal Pradesh to display their identity cards. The decision came a day after the Uttar Pradesh government reinstated a previously stayed order requiring eateries to disclose ownership details, aimed at enhancing accountability for food safety. Singh also said that street vendors, particularly those selling food items, will be subject to inspections by the food supplies department to ensure compliance with hygiene and quality standards.
